    Greggs – New Loyalty App

I’ve rather abandoned Greggs recently, lured away by Pret, and this appears to be the response (I don’t mean to just me, but to the current crisis of people not eating out) that they’ve made. It means a free coffee and potentially more free chicken bakes and sausage rolls. Not as generous as Pret, but getting there…..

    Greggs Rewards is changing

    Hi Julian,

We’ve got a shiny, brand-spanking new version of Greggs Rewards, and it’ll be live on your device on 3rd November.

    So, what’s new about it?

You’ll now get stamps for EVERYTHING (well almost everything). In the classic version we only have 1 stamp card, for hot drinks. Now you’ll get 6 different stamp cards in your app*

Drinks – now for ALL drinks not just the hot ones; from your latte to your bottle of water
Sandwiches and Salads – toasties to baguettes
Sweet Treats – from doughnuts to cookies
Breakfast – bacon butties to croissants
Hot Food – a healthy soup, to wedges and chicken goujons
Savouries & Bakes – from our famous Vegan Sausage Roll, to a slice of pizza and more

The deal is ‘Buy 9 get your 10th for free’. Every time you buy a product you get a stamp. Collect 9 stamps and your next purchase in that category will be on us. Plus, you’ll still get your birthday treat and the odd little surprise.

What does this mean for you?

    Your device

The new app is now available for Android users! We’ll do the magic in the background, just make sure you’re using the most up to date version of the app.

    Your Rewards

As you switch between old to new, we will transfer any pre-paid top-up balance as well as any of those well-earned Rewards. When it comes to your stamps, we have wiped the slate clean and given you a free hot drink Reward to say thanks.

  • Norwich – Greggs (Re-opened)

    Norwich – Greggs (Re-opened)

So, today is the day that Greggs re-opened. I thought it a bit ridiculous to get there at 09.00 which was the time that they formally opened their doors, there are many other important things to think about in life at the moment. Getting there at 09.00 would have looked desperate.

At 09.21 I arrived at Greggs in Anglia Square, just for a sausage roll at the moment. It seemed excessive to get too excited and start ordering more exotic items, slow and steady is important.

I thought at first that these were queue barriers. Indeed, they might well have been, but since it was pouring with rain, there was no queue.

Looking good…. Well, bar that steak bake which has burst with excitement.

    Nice and clear.

And there we go, life is returning to normal.

    Greggs Re-opening

Well, how lovely, that’s all of the Norwich city centre Greggs re-opening on Thursday 18 June 2020….

  • Greggs – So Nearly There

    Greggs – So Nearly There

And what lovely news about Greggs and the re-opening of a third of their outlets in mid-June. I understand that Cukiernia Sowa have re-opened across Poland as well. For the many, not the few……

  • Chesterfield – Greggs (Burlington Street)

    Chesterfield – Greggs (Burlington Street)

It’s true to say that I talk and write quite a lot about Greggs, it’s certainly my favourite chain.

So, I was pleased to be given this free savoury item from Vodafone Rewards. Actually, I think this is a stupid promotion for Greggs, it’s unusable for people who don’t live near a Greggs (although I accept that isn’t many people) as it has to be claimed within an hour and the codes frequently get used up quickly. It’s a strange way of rewarding non-customers over customers as well, I suspect that this has a negative overall impact on Greggs. But, since Greggs seem to know what they’re doing, I’ll just carry on accepting the rewards when they’re sent.

As Greggs go, this was pretty average. The entrance mat was damaged, the hot food section display was broken with paper signs explaining the problem and the range of items was sparse. What they did have in the main counter was cold and my chicken bake, usually a product of quality, was unexciting. This wasn’t just a chicken bake that had just gone cold, it had clearly been there for far too long. The staff member, who was on her own despite a queue forming, was helpful and friendly, but it all felt a bit barren.

But, my chicken bake was free, so I won’t complain….. And I’m prepared to give Greggs another chance. Actually, probably many tens of chances as they’re still my favourite chain and I’ve missed them on my travels.

  • Norwich – Greggs

    Norwich – Greggs

Since this will be my last opportunity to get a Greggs for over a month, I didn’t want to waste it, so an early morning (well, what I call early morning) visit to London Street was needed.

    Bargain…..

Since it was before 8am, I didn’t feel the need to have anything too heavy, so a delicious and succulent sausage roll it was…..

I’m not normally one for sweet options, but how lovely. The service was, as usual, fast and efficient, making this another stress-free experience. I haven’t yet tried one of the chain’s new vegan steak bakes, that’ll have to wait for my return.

I shall miss Greggs. For the many, not the few as they say.

  • London – Greggs Stratford

    London – Greggs Stratford

After we’d got off the Megabus from Norwich to London, there was one cultural highlight of London to visit, the Greggs at Stratford Westfield…..

    Cakes.

    And beautifully presented pastries.

Greggs are giving free Walkers crisps to lots of people who have the Greggs App, which complemented my hot sausage roll beautifully. Friendly service and top quality products, what a quite marvellous way to start a weekend away…..

  • Greggs – Vodafone Rewards

I’m too easy to please really, but today I’m delighted with Vodafone Rewards for giving me this high quality lunch from my favourite artisan bakers for free….

  • Bread, the Story of Greggs by Ian Gregg

I’m not sure how I missed this little number, especially since it was first published in 2013. Greggs has changed much since even then, but there was an interesting section on the takeover of Baker’s Oven, a company Greggs had been chasing for a long time which I hadn’t realised.

For anyone who wants it, Amazon sell it….

  • Newcastle – Newcastle Airport (Greggs)

Well, how marvellous, a 24-hour Greggs at Newcastle airport. Despite it being 3.30am the staff were friendly, welcoming and engaging, an impressive effort. And I was moderately surprised that the prices of the fine Greggs food isn’t much more expensive than the standard pricing at high street shops.

A large latte and a packet of Cheese Puffs, just what any traveller needs before their long journey. And, both were free with the Greggs rewards app, so it’s a win win for the hungry traveller.

I note the TripAdvisor review of this fine outlet which said:

“Staff are more interested in conducting their social life and exchanging banter with each other than serving customers. I am surprised that Greggs continues to be so successful because all the stores have similar issues in my experience.”

I suspect that Greggs are so successful simply because their staff are friendly and exchanging banter, and I’ve never been to one where they haven’t been serving customers…. Anyway, all very lovely, and every airport in the country should perhaps (well, not perhaps) have a Greggs in it.
